Emma received her Bachelors of Science in Recreation Management and Policy: Therapeutic Recreation option from the University of New Hampshire. She completed her internship at Burlington Parks and Recreation and then passed the National Board exam, obtaining her NCTRC certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
What is a Recreation Therapist or Therapeutic Recreation Specialist?
Recreational Therapists (RTs) are the qualified providers for therapeutic recreation programs/services.
In order for an RT to become a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist they must complete a bachelor degree or higher with an emphasis in therapeutic recreation.
Additionally, RTs must complete a 560+ hour internship under the supervision of another RT.
Finally, an RT must complete and pass the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification’s exam to become a CTRS.
In addition to Emma, BPRD has a team of Therapeutic Recreation Staff. These are individuals who are passionate about inclusion and access to recreation for people with disabilities. They include staff with years of experience, four other recreational therapists, as well as professionals in related fields.
Our TR programs would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of our TR Team!
