Financial & Medical Assistance
Chapter 115 Public Assistance
Under Massachusetts General Law Chapter 115, the Commonwealth provides a needs-based financial and medical assistance program for indigent veterans and their dependents. Eligible veterans and their dependents receive financial aid for necessities such as food, shelter, clothing, fuel, and medical care, based on a formula that considers the number of dependents and income from all sources. Dependents of deceased veterans are provided the same benefits as if the veteran were still living.
For more information, visit the Chapter 115 Benefits/Safety Net Program.
Pensions
Low-income wartime veterans may be eligible to receive a pension from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Eligibility is based on income, and veterans must be 65 years of age or older or be totally and permanently disabled.
