Drone Unit

The Burlington PolPictured is Officer Dan Main operating a drone.ice Drone Unit has been revolutionizing law enforcement through advanced aerial capabilities since 2017. Assisting with various operational efforts, the Drone Unit is currently made up of four Officers who are Remote Pilots in Command (RPiC). Each officer holds an FAA 107 license that allows them to fly small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (sUAV) commercially. This unit enhances public safety by providing a bird’s eye view of various incidents. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and piloted by skilled officers, our drones boost our department’s response to emergencies, crime prevention efforts, and community policing initiatives.

The Drone Unit is versatile in its function. This technology allows officers to search for missing persons, suspects, and articles, in addition to performing hazmat scene assessment, crash/crime scene photography, inspection/survey assistance, tactical over-watch, and remote communications. These missions all take place within FAA regulations and department policy.
