All business certificates (commonly known as "doing business as" or "DBA" certificates) are filed with the Town Clerk. The DBA files allow consumers to identify and locate the proprietor of a business that goes by a name other than that of the proprietor. If you are running the business out of a residence, and that residence is an apartment or condo, you will need to notify the management and get written confirmation from the management company. Once filed, a certificate is valid for four years. The fee for filing is $40.00.
If a business is registered in Massachusetts as a Corporation and uses the same name to do business as, then there is no need to file a DBA certificate in the town. If you have any questions, please call our office at 781-270-1660.
