Study the specifics of the land swap

Calling the proposed three-way land swap a "complex and difficult project," town officials have set up more than a dozen meetings in the coming weeks to inform the general public and town meeting members about the specifics of the plan. All town meeting members should attend these sessions, ask questions of town officials and understand the project.

With all of these sessions planned, town meeting members should have a clear understanding of the proposal before the Special Town meeting is called to order. Those who do not understand these plans have no excuse. The administration is doing their part to inform the community.

Town officials have been meeting with developers Gary Ruping and the Gutierrez Company for more than two years finalizing the specifics of this plan. Officials should be commended for coming up with this innovative three-way land swap plan. If approved, the plan would bring senior affordable housing to both the Mountain Road and Grandview Farm sites, preservation of open space at both sites, and eliminate the comprehensive permit at the Grandview Farm site. The comprehensive permit could yield nearly 100 apartments on the historic Grandview Farm site.

This project is complicated, after all it took two years to negotiate. It is going to take residents and town meeting members time to digest the specifics of these plans. Don’t delay. Attend the forums and ask questions.
