Name: Jaws of Life

LOC:  Engine Companies 1 & 2

Use: Jaws of life are actually three hydraulic tools made up of cutters, spreaders and rams.  These tools are used primarily on motor vehicles to free trapped victims.  The tools may also be used in various other rescue scenarios.

 

Name: Ice Sled

LOC:  Headquarter,  placed on Ambulance for transport if a ice rescue call is received.

Use: Allows Firefighter to traverse Ice or water to victim rapidly.  Firefighter can then easily load victim onto sled and return quickly to shore.

 

 

Name: Automatic External Defibulator

LOC:  Ambulance 1, 2, Engine 1, 2 and C3

Use: Known as AED for short, this device allows firefighters to shock patients who are in cardiac arrest.  Because of the ease of use these devices may be found in public places (such as airports), places of employment and even some schools.  There is even a device now being made for the home.  Contact your doctor for more information.

 

 
Name: D-CON Trailer

LOC:  Trailer behind Headquarters

Use: The D-CON Trailer houses the Decontamination tent that would be setup in the event of a mass causality incident where many individuals were contaminated.  The tent consists of 3 parts: undressing, washings, and redressing of victims into clean clothes.. This tent would be deployed at local hospitals in the event that the  hospital is designated to receive contaminated patients.  Patients would be required to go thru the D-CON process before being admitted to ER to prevention spread of contamination.

 

Name: K-12 Saw

LOC:  Tower 1

Use: Power saw with multiple blades.  Primary use is for cutting holes in metal roofs for ventilation.  It can also be used for cutting through steel supports, or wood  It has also been used to cut through metal doors or locks in those building where keys were unavailable for access..  

 

Name: Airbags

LOC:  Ambulance 1 and Rescue 1

Use: Airbags are used to lift heavy objects in order to free victims.  These object may be motor vehicles or debris from a structural collapse.
