Welcome to the Town of Burlington,
|
|
Sewer Infiltration & Inflow Since the Town's sewer system has been regulated
by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (Mass DEP)
in the late 1980's due to excessive Infiltration and Inflow (I/I), the
Town has strived and made significant efforts to reduce and eliminate
I/I in the sewer system. Because of these efforts and the programs implemented,
Mass DEP has labeled Burlington one of the model towns/cities in the state
for other communities to replicate. Illicit/Sump Pump Sewer Connection Amnesty Program One of the programs that the Town has implemented,
as previously mentioned, is the Illicit/Sump Pump Sewer Connection Amnesty
Program. This program is unique in that it offers a solution to inflow
due to illicit connections from residential properties. Land developers
seeking sewer allocation (because of the moratorium placed on the Town
by Mass DEP) can direct their efforts and expenses to redirect the illicit
connections as an alternative to obtain allocation. The developer would
finance the construction and the resident would not incur any cost to
redirect the illicit connection. This program is only open for
enrollment until December 31, 2010 and is FREE to join. The construction
involved with redirecting the illegal connections will also be FREE of
charge to the homeowner. For additional information on illicit
sewer connections and the amnesty program see the power point presentation
and brochure below or contact the Engineering Division. Illicit/Sump Pump Sewer Connection Presentation Illicit/Sump Pump Sewer Connection Brochure |
