Engineering Frequently Asked
Questions
Where is your office located and what are your hours?
We are located on the second floor of the Town Hall Annex at 25 Center Street. This is across from the Town Common between the Town Hall and the Fire station. Our office hours are from 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.
What information do you have?
We have all types of maps, plans, and reports. Most relate to Town infrastructure (water, sewer, drainage). Assessors maps are also available in this office.
Can I get a map of my property?
We may have your plan on file, particularly if it has been filed at the Registry of Deeds. It may or may not show your house or other features. The Building Department may also be a good source for these maps. The registry of deeds is also a good place to look.
How do you decide to pave a road?
A comprehensive database is connected to a detailed pavement management system. The overall condition of any street is calculated and ranked in comparison with all other streets in Town. Based upon available funding, a repair program is scheduled each year. Minor repairs (potholes, etc.) are handled through the Highway Division (781-270-1677).
How can I determine my property boundaries?
While many people assume that they own up to the pavement edge, the Town owns a strip of land called a Right of Way within which the roadway lies. The actual boundary offset varies from street to street. The best way to determine your property boundaries is to hire a land surveyor.
