Free Crime Prevention Programs for the Community
The Burlington Police Department is committed to working with the community to reduce crime and fear of crime and to educate the public in order to improve safety and quality of life. If you live or work in Burlington or you have a business, group or organization in Burlington we would be happy to help you. All of our services are free and we have a number of highly trained officers who are experts in many specialized fields who would be very happy to come and talk to you or your organization. If your group does not have a suitable facility we can also work with you to find an appropriate location.
We currently offer the following programs:
Self-Defense Courses - We offer personal safety and self-defense classes for women, seniors, men, and children. We teach the RAD programs for each group of adults and Radkids for children. You can find out more about these programs at http://www.rad-systems.com and http://www.radkids.org

Workplace Safety and Violence Prevention Training - We can train any sized group at your business, house of worship, school or facility on what to do when encountering violence in the workplace and active shooter situations.
Crime Prevention Assessments - We can go to your home or business and make recommendations to improve safety and enhance security procedures.
General Police Topics - We can come to your business or meet with your group to talk about a wide range of police related topics with any type of audience.

Chief Michael Kent and the men and women of the Burlington Police Department would like to invite you to get an inside look at your police department and see what it is like to be a police officer.
This 10 session live classroom training is being offered for free to Burlington residents and those who work in Burlington. There will be a waiting list for non-residents who wish to attend. This opportunity is open to anyone 18 and older or 16 and older if accompanied by a parent or guardian. Attendees will have to consent to a criminal background check and sign a Non-Disclosure Form.
Students will learn about:
Massachusetts Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure
Firearms and Defensive Tactics
SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics)
Traffic Control & Enforcement
Operating Under the Influence
Terrorism and Emergency Preparedness
Police Patrol Procedures
Students will also have the option to do a "Ride-Along" with a patrol officer or
to do some observation time in Dispatch while real calls are being handled.
