Elder Services

The Burlington Council on Aging was formed in September 1967, by a vote of Town Meeting. Burlington residents are appointed by the Selectmen for one and three year terms. They serve as volunteers and set Policies and Procedures to provide a fuller way of life for seniors sixty and over.

Where are we?

We are located in the Human Resources Center, 61 Center Street, and are open Monday thru Friday 8:30 to 4:30 p.m. Office: (781) 270-1950, Coordinator: (781)270-1953, Transportation and Senior Organization: (781) 270-1952.

Monthly Meetings

The Council on Aging Board meetings are held on the second Monday of the month at the Senior Center. The meetings are open to all, with citizen participation encouraged.

Monthly Bulletins

A monthly informational bulletin is mailed to all persons 60 and over at no cost. The monthly Bulletin serves as a most valuable link between the Council and the elderly of the community. The Bulletin updates news pertaining to medical and legal and a monthly calendar of schedules and events, along with the daily menu.

Services Available

A lunch time "Eating Together Program" operated by Minuteman Home Care is available Monday thru Friday at the Senior Center providing a nutritious meal and opportunity to socialize with old and new friends. Operated by Minuteman Home Care, the nutrition program also provides home delivered meals to those Burlington residents who are homebound and in need.

In addition, Minuteman Home Care provides a wide range of, supportive services to Burlington residents designed to maintain individuals in their own home and communities. Services include case management, in home services, money management, nursing home pre-screening, companionship and Alzheimers's services.

Lahey Clinic sponsors an evening meal for Seniors each Thursday, along with Geriatric presentations. Volunteers from the Burlington High School help serve the meal.

SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elderly)

Shine counseling is confidential and free of charge. Available by appointment the second and fourth Monday at the Council on Aging office from 12:30-3:30. This service is available to assist and inform elders of their rights under the Medicare and appropriate referrals to various agencies when necessary.

Alzheimer's Support Group

On the first and third Wednesday evenings the Alzheimer's support Group meets in the Arts and Crafts Room of the Senior Center, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Afternoon group availability from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. on the First and Third Wednesday. There is no charge for this group.

Fuel Assistance

Available at the COA office from October thru March in collaboration with the Emergency Fuel and Weatherization Program in Lowell, MA.

Grandparent Information and Referral

Satellite Unit to Salvation Army Services. Call COA Office.

Legal Aid

Available at the COA office once a month. No appointment is necessary.

Transportation

5 days a week for Programs and Medical appointments within the Town. Call COA office for appointment.

Tax Assistance

Available FREE from February to March.

Outreach Worker

Available Monday through Friday at the Senior Center. Appointments are preferred, but not necessary. Home visits are available.
