New Fire Station No. 2:


 The Town of Burlington invites sealed bids for the “New Fire Station No.2”, a new 16,200 square foot fire station on the site of the existing Fire Station No.2. in the Town of Burlington, Massachusetts 01886. The new Fire Station shall be built in accordance with the Contract Documents prepared by Context Architecture, 68 Harrison Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts, 02111.

GENERAL BIDS will be received until 1:00pm on Tuesday December 19, 2017 electronically submitted on-line and publicly opened on-line, forthwith.

 The location, general characteristics, and principal details of the Work are indicated in a set of drawings, entitled "Burlington Fire Station No.2”.

 The work under this contract will consist of constructing a new 16,200 SF two story fire station on an existing Town owned parcel which currently houses the existing Fire Station No. 2. The address is 114 Terrace Hall Ave. in Burlington Massachusetts. The new fire station contains a three-bay Apparatus Room, Administrative Offices, a Training Room, and Fire Fighter living quarters. The new building is a steel frame, masonry bearing wall structure with brick and pre-cast veneer as well as metal and fiber cement board siding. The site work will consist of cuts and fills for the building and parking areas as well as installation of a storm water management system. There are four Add Alternates. Alternate #1 - Furnish and install Appliances and EquipmentAlternate #2 - Add a hydraulic elevator to the Fire Station, Alternate #3 - Addition of a resinous floor system on the Apparatus Room concrete floor and associated concrete floors in rooms, Alternate #4 - Add radiant heating in Apparatus apron at Terrace Hall side of building.

Bid Security: Bid Bond shall be at least five percent (5%) of the greatest possible bid amount, considering the alternate; made payable to the Town of Burlington; conditioned upon faithful performance by the principal of the agreements contained in the bid, and in the form of:

1) cash, 2) certified check, treasurers or cashier’s check issued by a responsible bank or trust company, or 3) bid bond issued by a surety company licensed to do business in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

 Note: Both the “bid bond” or “check” bid deposits are to be scanned and uploaded to the system as a pdf file. IMPORTANT NOTICE: If the bidder elects to make a bid deposit in the form of “cash” or “check” the bidder must have the cash or check physically delivered to the Awarding Authority prior to the date and time of the bid opening.

 Bid Bond shall be retained until the execution and delivery of the Owner/Contractor Agreement if they represent the bid deposit of one of the three (3) lowest responsible and eligible General Bidders or one of the three (3) lowest Sub-bidders in a filed sub-bid trade, or a sub-bidder listed by one of the three (3).lowest General Bidders.

 There is a Plan Deposit of $100 per set (maximum of 2 sets) payable to Projectdog, Deposits may be electronically paid or must be a certified or cashier's check.  This deposit will be refunded for up to two sets for general bidders and for one set for sub-bidders upon return of the sets in good condition within thirty days of receipt of general bids. Otherwise the deposit shall be the property of the Awarding Authority.

 Additional sets may be purchased for $100. Bidders requesting Contract Documents to be mailed to them shall include a separate check for $40.00 per set for UPS Ground (or $65.00 per set for UPS overnight), payable to Projectdog, to cover mail handling costs.

 Attention of bidders is particularly called to the requirements as to conditions of employment to be observed and minimum wage rates to be paid under this Contract as determined by the Department of Labor and Industries under provisions of the Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 149, Section 26-27D, inclusive, as amended.

 The bidder agrees that its bid shall be good and may not be withdrawn for a period of 30 days, Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays excluded, after the opening of the bids.

 The Owner, the Owner’s Project Manager and the Architect, being considered the sole and only judge, reserves the right to waive any informalities in, or to reject, any or all bids, should the Owner deem it to be in the Owner's best interest to do so.
